This project consists of a 81,000 square foot renovation to the existing 50 year old 18-storey residential building creating 146 affordable seniors housing units. 20% of the units barrier free with new accessible washrooms and kitchens meeting CSA standard. The other upgrades included accessibility upgrades to the new community room and solarium, new laundry facility, triple glazed windows, R38 Overcladding and Juliette balconies. The building demonstrates passive resilience to extreme conditions: In case of failure of active systems, the building will stay warm in winter for up to two days (compared to 2 hours in a typical building) and below dangerous heat levels in summer for up to four days (compared to half a day in a typical building).
